Death toll from Doti diarrhea reaches 8
Eight people have died due to a severe diarrhea outbreak in Doti district this year.
The latest victim of the waterborne disease was 12-year-old Padma Kunwar of Basshudevi VDC-4 who died while receiving treatment for diarrhea at a local health post on Saturday evening.
The victims of the diarrhea outbreak that spread at various villages in the district for the past one-and-a-half month are Abi Saud and five-year-old Geni Kami of Bagalek VDC-1, 11-year-old Pitteuli Saud of Bagalek-8, 65-year-old Khintu Auji of Kalena-4, 16-yr-old Laxmi Bhandari of Shilgadhi Municipality-8, two-year-old Suresh Bhul of Sanagaun-8 and 70-year-old Sharada Saud of Kandamandau-3 of the district.
According to the District Public Health Office (DPHO), altogether 401 people have been taken ill due to severe bout of diarrhea in various villages in the district in the last one-and-a-half month as locals have been terrorized seeing the authorities failing to contain the disease.
Seven elderly people had died in Kandamandau VDC some two months ago due to a mysterious disease. Although the DPHO still denies that diarrhea had anything to do with the deaths, locals claim that the elderly had died of the waterborne disease
